Pizza Sauce

After watching Epic Meal Time, we no longer pronounce sauce like sane people.  Now it’s SAUZZE!!!  So we lovingly refer to this recipe as Pizza Sauzze!  Let me clarify that there is no Jack Daniels in this sauce but it is still awesome.
I like to make a batch or two at a time and freeze it in half batches to save time.

Recipe:

1 796 ml can tomatoes (unsalted)

1 tbsp tomato paste

3 cloves garlic (minced or finely grated)

1/4 tsp onion powder

2-3 tsp oregano

1 tsp basil

1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

1 bay leaf

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp honey

sea salt and pepper to taste

Puree the canned tomatoes in a food processor.

In a saucepan, saute the garlic in olive oil for 1-2 minutes.

Stir in the pureed tomatoes.

Add the remaining ingredients.  Simmer for 10-20 minutes until the sauce has reached your desired consistency.  We prefer a thick sauce.

This makes enough sauce for two large pizzas.  I usually use half of the sauce and freeze the remaining half.

After thawing the frozen sauce, I find it gets a little watery so I simmer it for 5-10 minutes to cook off the excess liquid.
